Intro To Pro/NC
This tutorial covers the ever-popular topic of creating symbols for a Pro E Drawing. Often overlooked, this topics can cause quite a bit of frustration for those not up-to-speed on it. A Pro E Drawing symbol is a combination of draft geometry and text. Symbols can either be retrieved from a symbol library or created as a user defined symbol upon placement in a drawing. Symbols can be defined using one of four basic techniques. Create an original symbol using the 2-D drafting functionality, copy an existing symbol and modify the geometry, copy 2-d draft geometry from an existing Pro E Drawing or import a symbol from a different CAD program. Common used industrial symbols can even be purchased from a vendor. Symbol libraries are a directory where the symbols are stored. There could be more than one symbol directory. The path to these directories must be specified in the correct configuration file. If the path is not specified before the symbol is stored, then Pro Engineer will save it to your current working directory for the Pro E Drawing you are working on.
