Sheet Metal Punches and Notches

This ProE Sheet Metal tutorial walks you through the basics of creating your own punch and notch

ProE Tutorial on Sheet Metal Punches and Notches

Punches and Notches are the topics covered in this 21 page ProE Sheet Metal Tutorial. We cover such questions as “Why would you use a Punch instead of a Notch?” or “Why can’t I just create a cut feature instead of placing a punch or notch?”

These special types of ProE Sheet Metal features allow you to assign specific ProE Sheet Metal Manufacturing Tooling to the feature. This can greatly enhance the manufacturability of your designs.

The ProE Sheet Metal lesson begins by introducing Punch features and User Defined Features (UDF). You will create a punch that can be added to your “library” of tools. In doing so, you can re-use the punch over and over for all your ProE Sheet Metal parts. Next, it is time to create a UDF feature for a notch. These are quite similar to the punch UDF’s except they perform a slightly different function. A punch feature will remove material all around it, where as a notch will remove material from the edge of a wall.
