Introduction to Surfacing 3

Using ProEngineer Surface, a bottle is created from a Variable Section Sweep and Boundary Surfaces. ProEngineer Surface Transform is also explored in creating this part.

One of the most complex, yet powerful features within ProEngineer Surface is the Variable Section Sweep. This high-quality ruled surface is typically the overall driving shape of a complex model. This ProEngineer Surface tutorial takes an in-depth look at these types of surfaces to create a constant wall thickness bottle design.

To start off with, the user creates a Variable Section Sweep from 3 curves to capture the overall shape of the sidewalls. Since the bottle is symmetrical, the surface is mirrored by using a ProEngineer Surface Transform. The other sides of the bottle are created from boundary surfaces. By specifying tangency constraints to the adjacent sides, a high quality surface quilt is created. Additional ProEngineer Surface creations includes multiple extruded surfaces and fillets. The completed bottle has a constant wall thickness and mass properties.
